t

to talk to youThe Large Hadron Collider suffered a setback friday delaying the atom smashing schedule. A potentially serious magnet failure caused the latest disruption. A faulty transformer was replaced earlier this week. Engineers were still investigating the extent of the problem Friday afternoon, and CERN officials could not say how long it would take to fix and what impact it would have on the LHC's schedule.
James Gillies, CERN's head of communications, said: "It certainly means we will not have collisions on Monday. We are now looking at the middle of next week at the earliest."
Update - 9-22-08
The damage from fridays incident will put the Hadron Collider off line for the next two months while repairs are done. The damage was significantly greater then first thought.
Update - 9-24-08
The Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator will not be smashing any atoms until 2009 due to the extent of the damages from last weeks magnet failure.
Many positive things to your way light brother *namaste*
