Lord Shiva is one of the three aspects of the Trimurti, Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the maintainer or preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer or transformer. Lord Shiva is that of the perfect yogi, cause he is usually immersed in deep meditation or dancing the Tandava upon maya, the demon of ignorance. Due to the intense Shakti created through his divine devotion, this leads his body to extreme heat. Because Lord Shiva's body gets to the point where it can easily burn up, a crescent moon is placed on his forehead by the other divine entities to cool his body down. If an object is in front of Lord Shiva's third eye when opened that object is burnt to mere ashes. Lord Shiva is usually worship in the form of a Shiva linga in most occasions.
