What happened to the moon and two extremelly bright stars next to it?

They're not Stars. They're Jupiter and Venus - the brightest lights on the sky, also the biggest. Planets move way faster than Stars do, but still slightly slower than the Moon does.

Venus is usually much closer to the horizon, and isn't visible at the same time with Jupiter, except now, when they're in an alignment, which is pretty rare, but nothing unusual.

Hi Ryan,
Our earth's wobbling on its axis because planet x is returning after orbiting the sun and its affecting the moon too. So remember your soul is eternal and be safe. Its planet x you see plus venus not jupiter. And yes it is unusual event but watch the sun set location too.

I'm into astronomy.. studied it for a few years, and have my own telescope. I guarantee you, it's Jupiter and Venus. Unless, of course, Planet X is hidden behind a hologram that looks like Jupiter... duh.. kidding of course.

I've followed the movements of Jupiter this whole year.. and Venus just started rising above the horizon a couple of months ago.. so bleh to the Planet X.

Night Skies: Moon, Venus, Jupiter In Tight Company Tonight

There's no need to wait for this month's celestial highlight; get outside tonight an hour after sunset, and look to the southwest. There, low on the horizon, the crescent moon forms a tight triangle with Venus and Jupiter.

But don't delay: It's a one-night show and lasts only a couple of hours before Venus, the lower planet, leads the others below the horizon. By Tuesday night, the moon will have moved away to the upper left.

It's an uncommonly close grouping of the three brightest objects in the night sky, and we're fortunate it occurs in the moon's crescent phase. A fuller moon would detract from the planets' brilliance.

Venus, seemingly stuck just above the horizon for a couple of months, finally gains altitude in December, ending the month a third of the way up the sky, still in the southwest. Jupiter, though, is headed downward. The big planet will be half as high by Dec. 31, when it has its second close encounter of the month.

You think David Wakefield will release the truth. Its funny they cover up the issue the same day it happens. They didnt know this was gonna happen in the past, but they just release this story on the same day it occured, why because they did'nt know before hand it was gonna happen, so they made up a story of the event on the same day it occurred, like more lies. Hahahaha, so what if you think you are a astronomer, you never discovered islands using stars like I did in my past. Cheers. Napa,

What I posted there was just one of the many other links that came up with the google search. They've been speaking about the alignment for weeks now.

And yeah.. maybe I haven't found islands by using stars.. but are you telling me I don't know Venus and Jupiter when I see them through my telescope, or that I am lying? Do some research man.. don't embarrass yourself ;)

The event you talking about happen earlier in the year on February 1, 2008, not now. Watch the sun, moon and the weather changes, jupiter or venus dont do that too, lol. Oh earthquake later throwout next year. Thanks Napa.
